apezium, no nebula exists.(Outlines, page 609.) That this opening has something to do in relationto the nebula entire is evident from a close scrutiny ofits structure. The whole nebula is built about it. Iquote from a prominent astronomical writer regard-ing this: The multiple star 0 Orionis might be called thefoundation stone of the edifice. All the lines of itsarchitecture are laid down with reference to it, andthe intimate physical association of the stars with thegaseous stuff surrounding them, has been spectro-graphically demonstrated by Sir William and LadyHuggins, and amply ratified by Professors Frost andAdams. Surrounding the trapezium is the brightestpart of the nebula. . . . Emanations (or what seemsuch) from . . . [this] core stretch away in widecurves to form the outlying portions of the nebula. The whole fabric of the nebula is concave towardsan axis passing through the trapezium in a northeast-erly and southwesterly direction.—The System ofthe Stars, pages 264, 26^. 17

CHAPTER XXIV Rolled Together as a Scroll ^F I ^HE heaven departed as a scroll when it isI rolled together; and every mountain and is-* land were moved out of their places. Andthe kings of the earth, and the great men, and therich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men,and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themselvesin the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; and saidto the mountains and rocks. Fall on us, and hide usfrom the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, andfrom the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of Hiswrath is come; and who shall be able to stand ? What does this scripture mean? What is the sig-nificance of the heavens being removed as a scrollthat is rolled up ? Evidently some great change in theatmosphere is indicated. Another writer describes itin these terms: The atmosphere parted and rolledback. (Early Writings, page 41.) These expressions certainly convey the idea of anopening of the heavens to the eye of man, not nowpossible.258 ROLLED TOGETHER
